There is a future, but it doesn’t happen in Europe: In the project VOID (comissioned by donaufestival amongst others), the immortal heroes from Japanese anime and manga culture meet the postcolonial visions of Afrofuturism; and they all speed through the global rhizomes of digital culture to unflagging rhythms and sounds. Slikback’s real name is Freddy M Njau, and he comes from Nairobi. For years, he has been combining African club music with techno and noise. He developed VOID together with the London-based video artist Nicky Smith aka Weirdcore: a journey through the history of the counter-appropriations of utopia that seizes your complete body and consciousness.
