She is a legendary figure: for more than 40 years, Japanese singer Hiromi Moritani aka Phew has experimented with her voice and her singing: she speaks, sings, and rants in the most blood-curdling way, switching confidently between moods and octaves. Her 1981 debut album was recorded with Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit of CAN; the label Mute just re-released her 1992 work Our Likeness, which featured musicians from DAF and Einstürzende Neubauten. Phew is now performing concerts again for the first time in decades – her appearance at donaufestival is an absolute must-see event.
