From traditional Anatolian styles and the current sound of the Egyptian underground to metallic beats from the schools of European goth and industrial forged into Arabic melodies: these are the inspirations that fuel the music of producer and DJ Hüma Utku. She comes from Istanbul, lives in Berlin for some time now, and frequently travels throughout the Middle East. In her music you can hear fragile piano melodies and hand-hammered drums woven into modulated chants and bone-riveting drones. Her latest album The Psychologist is a journey into the depths of the human psyche and its relationships with the environment, which shapes and defines us while impelling us to become something else.
