Everything is alive, a soul resides in all things, even in the technology we use to create music: the duo Animistic Beliefs merges the digital and the spiritual; they make the ghosts in the machine sing and introduce traditions, own origins, into cosmopolitan techno-modernity. Linh Luu is of Vietnamese descent; Marvin Lalihatu is from Maluku in Indonesia. In their Cache/ Spirit project, co-developed with multimedia artist Jeisson Drenth, they unlock vast, futuristic aural and visual spaces in which their biographies and histories are retained and suspended. They worship the spirits of the past and erect altars unto them in the caches of the present.
