The Manchester-based duo Space Afrika started their career with minimal and dub techno productions. On their third album Honest Labour, the dragging rhythms quintessential for the genre are set into delicately collaged soundscapes; up-and-coming industrial rapper Blackhaine – who can also be seen in a solo concert at donaufestival – spits his syllables over string cascades the likes of Massive Attack, and the guitar is echoed and faded as if back in the days of The Durutti Column. It is music of memory and reappropriation, but it also strives to land in the present.
