ART & INSTALLATION
In the Columbian municipality of Guapi the celebration of Los Santos Inocentes commemorates the victims lost to slavery, racialisation, and violence, which the Afro-Columbian population on the Pacific Coast has suffered from for centuries. The video by Mapa Teatro documents these festivities, which – wrapped in a halo of Carnival – open a space for performative transgressions and counter-appropriations against the backdrop of colonial times and present-day drug trafficking. White masks placed on dark-skinned faces, men in women’s clothes, a whips cracks in the hands of the former slave.
