Felicia Chen aka Dis Fig takes a frantic ride through every imaginable style in her fantastic sets. She modulates the art of acceleration known from hyperpop in her mixing of classic hip-hop and the cyborg R’n’B of early Missy Elliott; she shreds streamlined techno rhythms along with the uneven gasping noise of punk and no wave and the harping harmonies of Cantonese pop, only to blend it all back together into tracks so acceleratingly disturbing and danceable as can be. On her 2019 album debut Purge, the beats are undercut by uneasy bass, and she fights the self-ignited chaos with her voice: “I came to see if you’re alive.”
